Life Legacy

Carolyn Crew Crawley, 81, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, in Edmond, Oklahoma, after a 5-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. Carolyn was born to Robert Reynolds and Maynee (McNabb) Crew on July 15, 1931, in Muskogee, Oklahoma and grew up in Tahlequah. After graduating from high school, she attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and then transferred to Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma A & M) to complete her degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation, Carolyn worked as a Home Economist at Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, in Tulsa, where she met Mike Crawley. They were married in 1956 and made their home in Tulsa for over 50 years. During their marriage, Carolyn enjoyed teaching art, pioneering the test kitchen for McCartney Foods; but most of all, being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Carolyn was very active in the Tulsa community. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association, The Tulsa Boys Home, The Tulsa Philharmonic, The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Tulsa Antique Club, and Chapter EG of P.E.O. Carolyn, along with Mike, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa for over 50 years, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School, served on several committees, and belonged to the Mariners Sunday School Class. Carolyn’s love of art led her to volunteer at the Thomas Gilcrease Museum, where she served as a docent for over 20 years.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Christopher; and husband, Mike. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Patrick Castleberry; her grandchildren, Dallas and Taylor Barber; her sister, Suzanne Sartin; nephew, Robert Sartin, and wife, Melissa, and their children, Jack and Maggie; niece, Angela Sartin Hartung, and husband, Jeff, and their children, Maggie, Phillip, Evan, and Abigail.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Touchmark of Coffee Creek’s Memory Care Facility and Quality Life Hospice, who lovingly cared for Carolyn during her illness.
The family held a graveside service in Tahlequah on September 13th. Please join them for a memorial service on Tuesday, September 18th , at First Presbyterian Church, 709 S. Boston, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Carolyn’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association, 2448 E. 81st St., Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137.
