Obituary

Annelle Slemp Lanford died peacefully on April 24, 2022. She was born in Tulsa Oklahoma on Oct. 14, 1927 to A.H. Slemp and Hellen Woodward Slemp.

She grew up in Tulsa, attending Lee, Horace Mann, and Central. She enjoyed playing the piano, gymnastics, horseback riding, and especially reading. She also loved a wide range of music, from Frank Sinatra to opera to Willie Nelson.

Annelle received both a BA and MA from the University of Oklahoma. With encouragement from her father and her husband, she made the unconventional decision, for the time, to attend the  University of Texas law school. She graduated in 1957 one of half a dozen women in her class.  After moving back to Tulsa, she worked for the law firm of Farmer, Woolsey, Flippo and Bailey. She later went into practice with her brother Ace Slemp.

She supported other professional women as a member of the Tulsa chapters of Pilot Club International and Business and Professional Women. These organizations provided her further mentoring and volunteer opportunities.

In 1939, Annelle joined First Presbyterian Church along with all her siblings and cousins. Over the years, this community of faith was a central part of her life. She was a member of the Mariners Sunday School class, Presbyterian Women and many other groups. She especially enjoyed mentoring students at Alcott Elementary .

Annelle is survived by her daughter, Andra, her son, John; three grandchildren, Katie, Emily and Brady; and one great grandson, Sebastian. She is also survived by members of her extended family which she cherished so much; the Conkwrights, Slemps and Woodwards.

Memorial gifts in gratitude for Annelle's life may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation.
