Obituary

Billy Joe Snoddy was born on
M arch 24 1939, the second of two sons born to Rosea Snoddy and Mamon
Patterson in Fort Worth, Texas.  After the death of his father at the
tender age of one, the family relocated to Haskell, Oklahoma where
they remained until he was in the third grade.  His mother remarried
Reverend LeRoy Peterson, and he was blessed with four more siblings.
The family relocated to Holdenville, Oklahoma where he attended school
until the sixth grade. The family then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where
he attended Carver Junior High School in the seventh grade
subsequently relocating to Claremore, Oklahoma where he graduated from
Claremore High School.  He received a full ride academic and athletic
scholarship to Dartmouth College. Ultimately, he chose to stay close
to home and join his brother at Langston University in Langston,
Oklahoma, where he became the star running back for the Langston Lions
football team.  He successfully graduated in 1962 with a BS in Math
and Chemistry.  He continued his graduate studies at TJC, KU, and the
University of Tulsa. He was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity where he was a recipient of the Man of the Year Award.
During his tenure at Langston, Billy was introduced to a young woman
by her cousin, who made the statement, "I'm introducing you to your
future husband."  Not knowing that Vivian Gay, Miss Langston
University of 1963 from Tullahassee, Oklahoma would hold the key to
his heart. Billy and Vivian were joined in
holy matrimony on September 4th, 1965.
The couple was blessed with three beautiful children, Lenny, Adrienne
and Anthony "Tony." The couple would then share 53 years of marriage
until he closed his eyes on March 6, 2019. Billy Joe was totally
committed to God and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an
early age. After relocating to Tulsa Bill along with his family united
with Vernon A.M.E. church serving under the leadership of Reverend
Hill and lastly, Reverend Robert Turner. Billy Joe was a member of the
choir and just enjoyed being in the presence of the Lord.  On June 15,
2013, the couple was recognized by Saint Paul Episcopal Church, the
City of Tulsa, and Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett, Jr. for their
contributions as mentors and role models to youth and adults as well
as their outstanding service to the community. Billy Joe was employed
at NAA on November 12, 1962. While at NAA, he achieved great success,
moving up the ranks from working in the Chemistry Lab to becoming
supervisor of the Quality Lab and Engineering Lab.
He enjoyed his work environment because of the high morale, work
ethics and attitudes of his counterparts. He was influenced by his
VP/GMs and would often pass on to others, "We have time to get it
right the first time. We do not have the time to get it right again."
Being acutely aware of this strength he remained employed with NAA for
over 53 years.Billy Joe was an avid collector of coins and Hot Wheels.
He enjoyed watching westerns, playing Sudoku and working crossword
puzzles. In his spare time, he played around with his bass guitars and
tinkered with his car.
Billy Joe was a quiet, selfless family man who loved his wife,
children, grandchildren and family. Billy Joe transitioned peacefully
on March 6, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosea
Snoddy and Mamon Peterson, his step father Reverend LeRoy Peterson,
and one son, Anthony "Tony" Snoddy. He leaves to cherish his precious
memory and continue his legacy: his loving wife of 53 years Vivian
Snoddy of the home; Lenny (Kayla) Whiteside of Aventura, FL.,
Adrienne Snoddy McKenney of Dallas, TX;
four grandchildren, Kyara Snoddy, Abrielle Snoddy, Amari
Sharpe and Cyera Coleman; six great grandchildren, Brailyn Hollis,
Aiden Hollis, Aliyah Hollis, Chadwick Hollis Jr.  "CJ", Ivy Scott and
Daytin Hollis; his five siblings, William Snoddy, Leemon Peterson,
Renee Peterson, Gaylynn Peterson and Russell Peterson, one aunt
Mildred Chamberlain, along with a  host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
friends, and family.
