Obituary

Carolyn E. (Bovey) McCright of Tulsa, OK, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2021 at Saint Francis Hospital, during a brief illness.

She was born August 25, 1934 in Crisfield, MD to Carroll Ellsworth Bovey and Mary Elizabeth (Fogleman) Bovey. After graduating from Hampton (VA) High School, she attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where she met James Stewart Boles. They graduated and married soon after in 1956. Carolyn and Jim moved to Tulsa in 1959 to accept positions at John Knox Presbyterian Church where she became Organist and he the Minister of Music. In 1974, Carolyn married Lester M. McCright.

For most of her life, Carolyn was devoted to music as both vocation and avocation. In addition to serving at John Knox, Christ United Methodist, and First Presbyterian churches in Tulsa, Carolyn worked at Saied Music Company for over 40 years where she enjoyed assisting customers, beginner or expert, and applying her knowledge. She was an active member of the Tulsa Chapter of the American Guild of Organists for more than 60 years and dedicated time and support to various organizations including Neighbor for Neighbor, Community Action Project and the Tulsa Symphony.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter Karen E. Knowles of Westcliffe, CO; grandsons Matt Knowles and Calvin Knowles, both of Nashville, TN; stepdaughters Amy L. Keeton (Randy) of Tulsa and Emily J. Yoxsimer (Greg) of Midland, TX, and their children, David and Hannah; and numerous cousins.
