Obituary

Charles Dwight (Skip) Johnson Jr., 88, entered eternal rest on May 16, 2023. Skip was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 12, 1934 to Marjorie Hazel Pahmeyer and Charles (Charlie) Dwight Johnson. He graduated from Central High School, Tulsa, OK in 1952. He then attended Tulsa University and joined the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After knowing of Anne Elizabeth Newmark in junior & high school, it was at Tulsa University that they began dating. Anne and Skip married on June 24, 1955 in Tulsa at University United Methodist Church and were inseparable for 69 years. Skip worked with his father, Charlie for 10 years at Food Town Grocery, Tulsa's first 24-hour grocery store. After Food Town was sold Skip was employed by American Airlines where he worked for 25 years as a mechanic. After retiring, he and Anne traveled and shared life with family and friends.

Skip's talents included taking anything apart and putting it together again. Televisions, engines, washing machines and air-conditioners. Constantly seeking learning experiences, Skip became a Master Gardner, a member of Habitat Humanity- Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers and participated in OSU-OLLI classes for a number of years. Skip and his son Chuck were members of the American Airlines Tulsa Scuba Club in the 1970's. Skip also volunteered at KTUL-TV 10:00 PM news on Friday nights to secure high school football scores from across the state. Skip and Anne enjoyed square dancing with the Buckaroos and Tulstar clubs, Tulsa University sports, weekend evenings in the neighborhood playing cards and visiting and NASCAR racing – at least Skip did! He and Anne attended Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa for over 30 years. Anne and Skip have been dedicated and active residents of Trinity Woods since 2013.

Skip is survived by his devoted wife Anne Elizabeth and together, lovingly raised two children Lori Anne Johnson Beasley (deceased husband Stewart R.) and Charles (Chuck) Dwight Johnson III (wife Lynette "Lynnie" Arnold Johnson).  They were models in the lives of their 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren Stewart R. Beasley, III; Amanda Lynn Indermill and son Mason Cole; Emory Breene Beasley and son William Lucas; Ryan Charles Johnson (wife Sarah) and children Owen Michael and Harper Ray; and Evan Cole Newmark Beasley.  Skip is also survived by sister Margaret Emily Swearingen (husband Don) and brother Robert A. Johnson (wife Liz).  He will be sorely missed by a multitude of family members and friends.
