Obituary

June 2, 1948 – August 28, 2018
Cowboy, rancher, outdoorsman, husband, father.  Dan Tarwater, 70, of Gore, OK passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the Broken Arrow home of his son, Lance Tarwater after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, and bravely fighting since October 2017.  Dan was the son of Don and Martha Tarwater, who preceded him in death.  He was a devoted brother to Laynette, Richard, Anamae and Martha.  Laynette and Anamae have also preceded him in death.  Dan was a Texas son, born in El Paso in 1948 and graduating from Eastwood High School in 1966 before serving a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in the Mexico Northern States Mission in Monterrey, Mexico.   He went on to attend Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ pursuing Feedlot Management.
He wed Karen Anderson on April 20, 1973 and enjoyed 45 years of her companionship as they partnered through an eventful life.  Having spent his youth on the family ranch, Las Cuatas, in Chihuahua, Mexico, Dan developed a passion for ranching and working with cattle.  A passion that followed him throughout his working years.  Always the consummate cowboy, Dan lived his life for others.  Ceaselessly genuine, kind, good for a laugh or ready to be a steady helping hand, he was respected by those who knew him on any level.  He is survived by his wife, Karen and children, Lance C. Tarwater of Broken Arrow, OK, Brandon Cade and Karin Tarwater of Tulsa, OK, Brandi M. and Brandon Morris of Pueblo, CO and Tray D. and Alisha Tarwater of Pueblo, CO.  Dan is also survived by eight grand children, two great grandchildren and a great many family and friends who loved him dearly.
He was a simple cowboy who wanted simple things and, following his wishes, his family will be foregoing a viewing and a memorial service in lieu of a celebration of his life with family and friends 12 pm, Saturday, September 8 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Gore, OK.  Those wanting to pay their respects are welcome to contact Karen Tarwater.  A memorial fund has been set up within his care fund at: gofundme.com/DanTarwater .  Well wishes can be sent to:  Karen Tarwater, 602 E College St., Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
