Dixie L. Lee of Tulsa, Oklahoma
July 20, 1933 - August 23, 2026
Dixie Lee Grimes was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on July 20, 1933 to Glenn and Wava Lahoma Grimes. She was married for seventy two years to her love, Don Lee, who preceded her in passing three years ago. Dixie graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. After graduation and several years as a homemaker she went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She retired after 24 years in 1986. She was a member of the Jane Phillips Sorority and Desk and Derrick. She served for one year as National President for Desk and Derrick and during her tenure they had 10,000 members. After retiring from Phillips she was involved in retail ventures but her passion became substitute teaching for the different school districts in the surrounding Tulsa area. She was known as “Mrs. Lee.”
Dixie was married to Don on March 12 1951. They have three sons, Jimmy of Montgomery, Texas. Johnny of Nowata, Oklahoma, and Jerry (who is deceased). Dixe is survived by her two sons, eight grandchildren (Matthew, Krissie, Kelli, Michael, Patrick, Megan, Daniel, Murphy) and ten great grandchildren (Kylie, Madison, Caden, Jordan, Lily, Jackson Jameson, Warren, Harrison, and Margo, plus numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
She was an active volunteer all her life. She was an active parent in the American Legion Baseball program, Catholic Church, American Red Cross, and was a mentor to many.
Dixie’s greatest joy was sharing her heritage life as a member of the Cherokee nation with her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was famous among her family not only for her heritage but by her uncanny luck at the slot machines.
Dixie had a great big life with many family and friends. At the age of 93 she could tell you dates, names, and places for all of it. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made in her memory to Catholic Charities, 2450 N Harvard Ave., Tulsa, OK 74115.
