Donald Joseph Howard's Obituary
Donald Joseph Howard, Jr. passed away Friday, April 20th, 2018. He grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, but was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 23rd, 1949 to Clara Louise Gibbs Howard and Donald Joseph Howard, Sr. Donald is survived by his wife, Eugenia Ann (Genie) Mckee Howard, they married August 2nd, 1980. He is also survived by his two sons, Ryan Joseph Howard and Andrew Michael Howard, both of Tulsa. His family was all gathered with him at the end and he passed very peacefully. He was an incredibly intelligent, funny, kindhearted, and loving husband, father, and friend.
Don was retired from the printing industry, where he was trained and worked in his father's printing company in Kansas City, since he was a teenager. He worked for a number of printing companies in Tulsa, since he moved here in 1981.
Don had a wide range of hobbies and interests that he was passionate about. He was an avid music lover, a musician throughout his youth, and a big fan of the blues, rock n roll, R&B, reggae, soul, and jazz. He was a lover of science, especially astronomy. Over the years he slowly acquired a collection of increasingly powerful telescopes that he loved to frequently gaze up at the stars and planets with. He enjoyed gadgets, toys, puzzles, and building models of all kinds, especially rockets, airplanes, and architectural pieces. He was an avid reader and enjoyed classic cinema, specifically old science fiction, horror, and fantasy. He was a big fan of sports, especially his Kansas City Chiefs. He was also incredibly handy; he had an impressive and fully stocked tool bench, could fix almost anything, and was an extremely capable carpenter. He loved anything with an engine; he briefly owned a go kart that he'd tear around the neighborhood in. He once owned and rebuilt an old muscle car, and he enjoyed going to the drag strip on weekends to watch the dragsters and funny cars.
Don will be dearly missed, but will never be forgotten by his family and friends.
