Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Donna Guiou announces her passing on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018. Donna was born in Ada, Oklahoma on July 25, 1946 to Marie and Earl Moore. She was the youngest of 3 children. Her family relocated to Bartlesville when she was young and she spent most of her childhood there. She proudly graduated from College High with the class of '64.

After high school, she attended Oklahoma State University and remained a devoted Cowboys fan her entire life. During college, she met Richard Guiou and they married in December 1967. She graduated from OSU in 1969 with her undergraduate degree.

After college, they relocated to Tulsa, where she started her career as a secretary. Over the years Donna and Richard welcomed two daughters, Shelley and Amy, and Donna stayed home with her girls. In 1982, Richard passed away unexpectedly and Donna singlehandedly raised her daughters following his death.

Donna went back to school when her girls were young to earn a Master's degree in Education. She became a counselor in Sapulpa Public Schools, work she found immensely rewarding as her true love was creating one-on-one connections with children. In 1988, Donna moved to Jenks Public Schools, first as a counselor and then as Assistant Principal, where she remained until her retirement. Donna had a passion for education and a special place in her heart for middle schoolers. She made an enormous impact on countless students, teachers and peers. Throughout her career, she continuously worked to remove barriers so all students would have access to every opportunity Jenks Public Schools had to offer.

In December 2001, she married Howard Golightly, Jr. and he was her partner for the remainder of her life. Donna is survived by her husband Howard, her brother Jim Moore, her daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley and Bob Thompson, Amy and Ryan Smith, and 5 beloved grandchildren that she considered her greatest blessings: Mya, Ian, Sophia, Izzy and Barrett. She was also blessed by countless friends, all of whom were touched by her wisdom, strength and love.

In lieu of flowers and as a tribute to her passion for education, memorial contributions may be made to the Jenks Public Schools Foundation, in memory of Donna Guiou.
