Dwayne Erwin Godsey passed from this life on May 10, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years.  He was born on October 27, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Covel and Eula (Jerome) Godsey. Dwayne attended the University of Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Awilda, and the two were married on September 5, 1953.

Dwayne was a consulting petroleum engineer for 21 years, owning Godsey-Earlougher Engineering Corporation.  In 1975, he sold Godsey-Earlougher to Williams Brothers Engineers and served as their Senior Vice President until 1981.  Dwayne then formed an independent oil and gas company, which he sold in 1995, and "semi-retired."

Some of Dwayne's many professional accomplishments include being a Founder of the Sarkey's Energy Center at University of Oklahoma, a Member of the National Board of Directors for the Society of Petroleum Engineers, where he was awarded the Society's "Distinguished Service Award" and named a "Distinguished Member of the Society." Dwayne sat on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board of Village South National Bank of Tulsa.  He sat on the Board of Directors of Arvest Bank Tulsa for seven years, until retiring in 2003. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the National Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers, the Oklahoma Independent Producers Association and the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association and the Independent Petroleum Association of America. Dwayne was part of the Dean's Council of Oklahoma University College of Engineering.

Despite his professional commitments, Dwayne dedicated his time to civic work and volunteering as well.  He was on the Board of Directors of New Haven United Methodist Church and was later a Director of Asbury United Methodist Church.  Dwayne taught Sunday School to young adults and mentored many junior and senior high school students.  He also tutored numerous high school students in math.  Dwayne was a volunteer Mediator for the Oklahoma Supreme Court's Early Settlement Program and a court observer in domestic violence cases.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Jo Ellen.

Dwayne is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Awilda (Neas) Godsey; sons, Mark Godsey and John Godsey; grandchildren, Kara, Taylor, Connor, Kris, Greg, Kevin, Kenny, and Kyle ; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members, friends, and professional associates.

Visitation will be held from 2PM-4PM Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Stanleys Funeral Home.  Following a private interment, a Memorial Service will be held at 11AM, Friday, May 14, 2021 in the Mason Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Dwayne's memory to the charity of your choice or to the Asbury Friendship Fund, Asbury United Methodist Church.
