Eleanor Davy Carmack departed this life on Saturday, December 18, 2021, in search of a new canvas on which to share her love and creativity and art. Born on March 2, 1935, Eleanor was a graduate of Central High School. She completed her B.A. in Painting and Graphic Design, and did gradate work in Printmaking and Humanities, at the University of Tulsa. She also studied Early and High Renaissance Art History at the University of Florence, in Florence, Italy.

Eleanor ("Mom" to many of her students) was a career teacher at Holland Hall. She was not only an art instructor in the Upper School, she was also the Head of the Visual Arts Department and oversaw the Walter Arts Center during her career. She was also a confidant, mentor, and friend to her students and fellow faculty members. When she retired from Holland Hall in 2000 after 35 years of teaching, Eleanor did not slow down. She continued painting and received her Certificate in the Appraisal of Fine Art from the International Society of Appraisers. With that, she established Carmack Fine Art Appraisals.

In 2013, she was the Tulsa International Mayfest Poster Artist, which truly delighted her, and in which she featured her granddaughter.

Eleanor was a board member of WaterWorks and helped transform that organization into the thriving organization that it is today. She also established a contemporary sculpture program on the grounds of WaterWorks. She was a board member of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Scholastic Arts, and a member of the Tulsa Mayoral Cultural Affairs Task Force for the Arts.

Eleanor received many awards and accolades during her career, including the Council Oak Award for her volunteer work with WaterWorks, the Award of Recognition from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts in Miami, Florida, the Creative Teaching Award from the University of Oklahoma, membership in the Holland Hall Chapter of the Cum Laude Society, and three travel/study grants from Holland Hall.

She participated in many group art shows including the annual Mayfest Invitational, Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition's "12 X 12" and Biennial IX, Tulsa Artists' Coalition Member Show and its annual "5 X 5" fundraiser, Individual Artists of Oklahoma "Mixed Media", and Gilcrease Museum's "American Art in Miniature". She also had many solo exhibits in galleries across the state including Northern Oklahoma College, Rogers State University, Redlands Community College, and two solo shows at the Tulsa Artists' Coalition Gallery. Eleanor's art is in the collections of Philbrook Museum of Art, the University of Tulsa, Bank of Oklahoma, and other public and private collections.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie, and her sister, Claudia. She is survived by her two sons, Chuck and Greg Carmack, and grandchildren, Aidan and Madeleine Carmack, all of Tulsa, a niece, Susan Hamm Smith and a nephew, Thomas Hamm, of Monroe, Georgia, and a niece, Becky Gilmore, of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Eleanor had dry wit and a keen ability to draw people into her circle. She was determined, focused, loving, and compassionate. We are all the richer for knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm on January 27 ^th , at First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fine Arts Program at Holland Hall.
