Freda Louise Davis Coffey, 95, passed away on December 11, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born in Sweetwater, Oklahoma on September 3, 1927, Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C. Maurice Coffey, who passed away in 2016.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15th, at the Chapel at Trinity Woods (formerly Oklahoma Methodist Manor).  The Reverend Weldon Tisdale will officiate.  A private interment ceremony will precede the Celebration.

Freda met Maurice Coffey when both of them were in high school in Sweetwater, and Maurice then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1944, shortly before graduating. Freda regularly wrote to Maurice in the Navy and made sure that the high school awarded him his high school diploma, which they were not going to grant due to his early departure.  Not surprisingly, four days after Maurice was discharged from the Navy in 1946, Freda and Maurice were married on May 1, 1946, a marriage that lasted for 70 years until Maurice's death.

After their marriage, the couple moved to Norman, Oklahoma.  Freda obtained an associate's degree from Hill's Business University, while working to support the two of them while Maurice obtained a degree from the University of Oklahoma pharmacy school.

Subsequently, after Maurice returned to the University of Oklahoma to attend medical school, Freda supported the two of them by working in a medical office in Oklahoma City.  She eventually managed her husband's medical office for almost 40 years, handling everything from scheduling, transcribing chart notes, and payroll, to all accounting for the office.

Freda was a strong woman of many talents, including first and foremost being devoted to and actively involved with her children, Randy and Janet, teaching Great Books courses, participating in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, attending every sporting event in which either of them ever were involved, and providing transportation for all of their musical or sporting lessons.  But Freda also had other interests of her own, including particularly her love of bridge, eventually achieving the status of Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League, which involved years of effort and successfully competing in numerous bridge tournaments, including playing opposite the bridge team of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.  She maintained her lifelong interest in accounting and investing, and successfully handled all of the family's investments and affairs.

In addition to her husband, Maurice, Freda also was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Lee Davis and Louise Purvis Davis, who adopted her and raised Freda as her own after Freda's birth mother, Elberteen Price Davis, passed away not long after Freda's birth.  Her brothers Denzel Davis and Charles Davis, and her sister Clara Davis Huffman, preceded her in death as well.  She is survived by her sisters Cleta Bridler, Lavonne Hilley, Mary Frances DeWitt, and Jeanette Gayle Loupé, her brothers Harold Davis and Kenneth Davis, and by her children, Randy Coffey and spouse Joseph Davis of Kansas City, Missouri and Evergreen, Colorado, and Janet Coffey Brownlee and husband, David, of Cary, North Carolina, as well as three grandchildren, whom she adored:  Katie, Gracyn, and Julia Brownlee, also of Cary, North Carolina.

The family wishes to thank home aides with Comfort Keepers, Senior Helpers, various staff members at Barnes House and Cobb Landing at Trinity Woods, and Season's Hospice in Tulsa, who went above and beyond to provide tremendous care to Freda during the last two years of her life.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Alzheimer's Association.
