Gary was born in Bristow, Oklahoma to Bill and Virginia Johnson, but he  grew up in Tulsa. He went to McKinley Elementary School, Bell Junior High and Nathan Hale High School where he graduated in 1963.  After high school he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in Viet Nam from 1965 to 1966.  During that time he was assigned to The 1st Division Big Red 1, Black Lions.  He joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard a few years later attaining the rank of 1st Sargent (TOP).

After Vietnam, Gary's first job was at Fram Corporation as a Design Draftsman.  He joined the Tulsa Police Department in 1969 serving 20 years before he retired.  He was a dedicated member of the Honor Guard.  He was Head of Security for Tulsa Teacher's Credit Union for 20 years.  Most recently he worked Security for Victory Christian Center, The Outsider House Museum, and he was a Docent at the Military History Center in Broken Arrow.

Gary loved FISHING, BOWLING, OU FOOTBALL and THE CHOSEN.  He loved to read and he was a really good cook.  He loved to fix spicy things.  Gary loved giving advice to the "younger generation."  HE WAS AN INSTANT FRIEND TO ALL HE MET.  He and Cathy loved attending Victory Christian Church.  He was not ashamed of his Faith and would share it with anyone he met.

Gary was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather (AKA Pop).  We will all miss you, Gary, but we rejoice that your suffering is over and you are at home with Your Lord and Savior.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Johnson of the home, a younger brother Dennis Johnson and his wife Donna of Bixby, a daughter, Deborah and her husband Greg Ray of Broken Arrow, a son, Clint Johnson and his wife Sarah of Collinsville and a daughter Devin Harris of Tahlequah, step-sons, Jerry and Allan Garrett.  He has 12 grandchildren, numerous cousins and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Johnson, grandparents, Jack and Sydney Clark and most recently, his son, Brent Johnson.
