Obituary

Hermann Grosse, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while in the loving care of his wife.

Born on October 25, 1931, in Texarkana, Arkansas, Hermann was the son of Max and Ella Grosse, who immigrated from Germany through Ellis Island in 1924. As hardworking immigrants, the Grosse family was awarded 40 acres of land to clear and farm. Their determination led to the successful opening of a feed store in Texarkana, where Hermann worked during his teenage years.

Hermann attended both Magnolia A&M College and Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean conflict and relocated to Tulsa in 1957, where he began building a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service.

Hermann became a Christian at the age of 13 during a revival at a small country church. His devotion to his faith remained steadfast throughout his life. He served as a deacon for many years at Ranch Acres Baptist Church and, more recently, attended Southwood Baptist Church.

He retired from the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority in 1994 but remained active in his community.

Hermann volunteered tirelessly, dedicating eight hours every Tuesday for eight years at Tullakogee Baptist Camp, followed by 20 years of service as a volunteer at Hillcrest Hospital.

Hermann is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Doris E. Grosse; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Pam Grosse of Jenks, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Tim Grosse, who passed away in 2014.

Hermann's life was a testament to hard work, faith, and a heart for serving others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be cherished by all who knew him.
