James Benjamin Herndon (J.B.) was born July 13th, 1921 in Nelogany, Oklahoma, to Roxie Potts Herndon and Felix George Herndon. As a child, his family moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He began selling newspapers on a downtown Tulsa street corner while still a young child. So young his customers would make their own change from the coins he held out in his hand. An enterprising young man, he always worked hard and made money hustling billiards on the side. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Louise Ray, on April 5th, 1940. They recently celebrated 78 years of marriage. J.B. enlisted in the U.S. Navy and joined the war effort in the Pacific during World War II. He is survived by Dorothy and their three children, James Herndon, Alice McCommas, and Judy Tidmore as well as their spouses, Jill Allison, Jim McCommas, and Brad Tidmore. He is also survived by grandchildren, Laura Day, J.B. Herndon II, Lynnann Herndon, Stephanie Hendrix, Jessica Tidmore, Steven McCommas, and Niki Herndon.
