Joe Edward Pendergraft of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at Inverness Village, with his beloved long-term partner, Dixie Reppe, by his side.

Recognized for his accomplishments early in life, Joe played in the 1954 Junior Babe Ruth League World Series as a member of the Joplin Nationals (Joplin, MO). He was also a winner of the Elks National Youth Leadership Contest in 1956. He was a musician that sang and played the clarinet and saxophone in the local bands while in high school. Joe was also an avid member of 4-H where he competed in livestock shows.  Known for his intelligence, great sense of humor, commitment, determination, and curiosity, he loved to dance and could easily be the life of any party.

Joe went to the local college before transferring with a scholarship to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated. Joe received numerous military awards and accolades with his proudest being The Legion of Merit and also being honored in 1992 with the Forces Command Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.  He had a distinguished career as a metallurgical engineer and entrepreneur and volunteered for many years with the National Guard. A proud patriot, Joe's leadership, integrity, and commitment to service were central to his life.

An instrument rated private pilot, Joe would fly for hours to watch his son's baseball game just to fly back to continue his work.  He continued flying using instrument navigation after his vision became impaired and remained committed to his physical fitness. An avid traveler, he explored destinations around the world, embracing new cultures and experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm.

During his time at Inverness Village, Joe formed many meaningful friendships and was well loved by fellow residents and staff.

Joe is survived by his long term partner Dixie, his children Piper, Joe, Tisha, and Eric, and twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma; father, Charles; and brothers, Charles, Ronnie, and Shelby (Shelby died in the line of service).

Joe will be remembered for being a loving father, his resilience, joy, patriotism, adventurous spirit, compassion and wonderful storytelling, as well as the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him.
