Julie Tennelly
Hunt
Sep 9, 1953 — Dec 31, 2023
Tulsa
Julie Anne Tennelly Hunt, beloved wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend, died peacefully on Sunday, the 31st of December 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 70 years of age.
Julie was born in Tulsa on September 9th, 1953 to Tyler and Wanda Tennelly. She lived in Tulsa her entire childhood and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1971. Julie attended the University of Oklahoma, where she studied microbiology and received a BS in Botany in 1975. She initially studied medical technology but changed her major after discovering med techs usually get to work by 6 AM.
Julie worked in Loss Control and Risk Management for over 40 years, primarily for Hanover and CNA insurance companies. She was motivated by protecting employees' health, safety, and lives, and she was one of the first women to work in the field in Oklahoma, often winning over skeptical clients with her charm, knowledge, and empathy. Prior to retirement, she was the Loss Control/Risk Management consultant for the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma, by far her favorite client. She was also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and served as president of the local chapter.
Julie had one daughter, Allie, also born in Tulsa.
She loved and supported the Tulsa Ballet, and volunteered with Safe Kids in Tulsa for many years.
In 2001, Julie married Gary Hunt. They traveled the world together and supported each other for 22 years, building a beautiful life together and welcoming the family into their home for many holiday celebrations. There was nothing about Julie that her husband did not adore.
Julie is remembered by her family and friends as a caring, loving woman who held them to high standards of integrity, respect and competence. She was known as someone with the know-how for dealing with life's difficulties, and she always offered her insight and experience in the most generous ways. Her father, an architect, often said despite his attempts at being logical, Julie frequently out "logic-ed" him. Many friends – including her husband – considered Julie the smartest person they ever knew. She was a force!
Julie is survived by her husband Gary Hunt, daughter Allie Feck Sequera (husband Axzel Sequera), sister Laura Tennelly Freeman (husband Bruce Freeman), and her nephews Nick and Charlie Freeman of Tulsa.
