Karen Anne McGivern Curthoys

Loving wife, mother, and daughter Karen Anne McGivern Curthoys passed away peacefully on October 12,2026. Karen was born March 11, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the second child of Ethel Louise Morford McGivern and Paul Vincent McGivern Jr. In her youth, she enjoyed swimming and spending time at Fort Gibson and Grand Lakes.

In 1975, she graduated from Nathan Hale High School and continued her education at the University of Oklahoma. She graduated in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Karen spent time in San Francisco before returning to her native Tulsa, where she enrolled at The University of Tulsa Law School, graduating in 1988 and gaining admittance to the Oklahoma Bar the same year. Karen became a distinguished lawyer in the field of workers' compensation and insurance defense. Practicing with her father at McGivern, Gillard, and Curthoys Law Firm, she routinely defended several prominent Fortune 500 companies. It was at The University of Tulsa where she met Brian Andrew Curthoys. They were wed in 1987 and had four sons together.

Karen was often found at the football field, basketball court, or baseball diamond cheering on one of her sons or her alma maters. Her love of performance also extended to the arts, and she was a supporter of both the Tulsa music scene and the Tulas Opera, where she volunteered. An avid traveler, she loved her time in Belize especially, having spent many hours SCUBA diving in the country’s vast barrier reef. Most recently, she visited Norway where she attended the wedding of her foreign exchange “son” Sondre.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Brian Andrew Curthoys, her father, Paul Vincent McGivern Jr, and her brother, Paul Vincent McGivern III. She is survived by her four sons, Andrew (Shannon), Alexander (Michelle), Timothy, and John. She is also survived by her brother Stephen McGivern and his wife Michelle, her sister Lynne Cotrill, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Karen's name to Catholic Charities or the Tulsa Opera.
