On a hot July afternoon in 1932, Lawrence A. G. Johnson, son of Fannie Glass Johnson, was delivered at his home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma by his father, Richard Revel Johnson, MD.  He attended Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia from the 9th grade until graduation. He obtained a B.S. degree in biology from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and then earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.  He practiced law in Tulsa for sixty years, receiving his sixty year Oklahoma bar pin just prior to retirement.  Larry became the first president of The Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, the precursor to Tulsa Opera, and sang in twenty-six operas.  He was a member of the Tulsa Club, Southern Hills Country Club, the Nicholas Club and the Rotary Club of Tulsa.  He taught professional photography at the night school of Votech for 10 years and took courses offered in automotive mechanics to become certified as a Volkswagen factory mechanic.  He was Scoutmaster of troop 153 and Sea Scout Ship 153 for many years at St. John Episcopal Church. Larry also enjoyed coaching the all-girl basketball team at Barnard Elementary.  His law practice demanded extensive travel so he obtained his pilot's license which enabled him to meet his future wife, Sarah Ann Johnson, while she washed the Piper Comanche given to her by her father, E.O. Johnson, MD.  They married in 1962 and had four children:  Kathrine McMahon (David), Courtney Hoff (James Hoff, MD), Kirsten White (Robert) and Lawrence Revel Johnson, MD (Stephanie) as well as several grandchildren:  Griffon McMahon and Elliott McMahon, Caitlin Hoff Daniels, James Hoff Jr. and Lorden Hoff, Sarah Kathrine White and Caroline White, and Alexandra Tollefsen and Margaret Tollefsen.  Larry and his wife passionately believed in providing the best education for their children, demonstrated by their graduations from Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, University of Virginia, Emory University, Art Institute of Houston, Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School.  Two daughters are advanced practice nurses in Neonatology/Pediatrics and Anesthesia.  The third daughter is an interior designer.  Their son is a triple board-certified Hematopathologist.  Larry's passions throughout life were hunting and flying.  All of his children experienced antelope hunting with him in Wyoming.  He and Sarah owned 4 airplanes at various times while he accumulated 13,000 hours of flight time.  Larry achieved his life's dream by going on 3 week safari in the Selous of Tanzania.  He achieved the distinction of unanimously winning a case before the United States Supreme Court and he was allowed to file briefs in other cases in that court where he remained on the winning side.  Representing the National Rifle Association, he won a case that forced employers to allow their employees to keep firearms in their cars on company parking lots.  Larry authored an Oklahoma State statute protecting that right and it was later adopted by thirty-two states.  He removed titanium as a weight-bearing surface for hip and knee implants worldwide in one of the first product liability lawsuits of its kind.  Before his death, he told his family that he had been dealt a good hand by living during a time of good music, great actors, great movies and a community of citizens who were civil towards one another. Larry truly regretted to see statues and monuments being destroyed by uneducated fools. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to his caregivers both in the home and at  Cearu Medical Resort.
