Linda Kay "Kay" Sones
August 31, 1949 – August 30, 2025

Linda Kay Sones, affectionately known as Kay or Katy, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, just one day before her 76th birthday. Born as Linda Kay Holley in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, on August 31, 1949, Kay lived a life marked by compassion, joy, and an unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and the many animals she lovingly cared for.

A proud graduate of Tonkawa High School in 1967, Kay continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College. She later settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she married the love of her life, Ed Sones, in 1972. Together, they raised two daughters, Gabrielle Hudson and Amanda Gaden, who remained the center of her world.

In 1989, Kay and her family relocated to Cedar Park, Texas, where her generous heart embraced many she considered family. Her nurturing spirit deeply touched the lives of her godchildren, Savanna Cooper and Lacey Cooper, along with others in their family, and countless individuals who were fortunate to be welcomed into her circle of love.

After her children were grown, Kay's boundless compassion led her to volunteer with Austin Wildlife Rescue. She became a beloved figure in the community, known for caring for nearly every animal imaginable—skunks, raccoons, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, possums, deer, birds, and even baby tigers. Her dedication earned her the nickname "the deer lady" following a CNN feature that highlighted her extraordinary efforts. She also made a memorable appearance in the debut of Dances with Skunks—a lighthearted nod to her fun-loving and fearless nature.

Kay spent her final week in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by the family she cherished most. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her husband Ed Sones, sister Saundra Noles and brother-in-law Donnie Noles, her daughters, Gabrielle Hudson and Amanda Gaden; her grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, and Luke Hudson, and Zoey and Willy Gaden; her godchildren; and all those whose lives were touched by her warmth, generosity, and enduring spirit.

Kay was loved beyond measure. May her love continue to guide and inspire all who knew her.
