Mary Margaret Swain Beesley, aged 101, died peacefully at her home of over 50 years surrounded by family and her loving best friend. Athletic in her younger years, she played a mean game of tennis, but she was a formidable, gritty competitor at golf, her life-long passion; she was known for her gin rummy prowess and acumen at bridge, but mostly for her elegance and grace. She was the consummate hostess, renowned for exquisite Thanksgiving dinners, golf tournament house parties, her beckoning swimming pool, and chocolate chip cookies. Margaret was the matriarch of her clan – a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister – and she deeply loved her far-flung family. Born to Cleo and Arthur Swain in Okmulgee, OK, she was preceded in death by them and her brothers Howard Bennett and Edwin Orlando, sister Rose May "Pat" Schrandt, her husband Scott C. Beesley, and her son Panta Rhei (born John I. Tyler). She is survived by her children Sue Tyler Coyle (Chris), Larry Tyler, Don Tyler (Mary Jo Clark), Jane Tyler (Nick Stevens), grandchildren Page, Becca and Lennon Tyler, Brian and Andy Biehl, Majic Iacono, Chris and Mike Tyler, Ken and Steve Koller, nine great-grandchildren, and generations of nieces and nephews. Margaret graduated College High School in Bartlesville where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. She attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In Tulsa, as a member of St. John's Episcopal Church she was a member of Altar Guild for 40 years, Directress for seven years, and the first female Senior Warden 1993-95. It is with profound gratitude that the family wishes to acknowledge Gail King, Henryetta, OK, Margaret's best friend and caregiver of many years and also Dory Marineau, Margaret's long-time personal trainer, who kept her moving right up to the end. A brief memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa on September 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Please, no flowers. She will be sorely missed and we will cherish and carry her joyful memory forward for generations to come.
