Melinda Kay
Muck
Jan 21, 1951 — Sep 9, 2024
Tulsa
Melinda Kay Muck passed away unexpectedly the evening of September 9, 2024 at the age of 73. Surrounded by her family, Melinda was called home, to be pain free from the Multiple Myeloma cancer that she fought so bravely and tirelessly against. She was born on January 21, 1951 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Vernor Earl Courtney and Rachel Katherine (Surber) Courtney, the middle child to a family whose love was endless and laughter was abundant. She graduated from Blackwell High school in 1969 with several awards and achievements. Melinda was a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in clothing, textiles and merchandising. She had an early career in the women's clothing department at Harold's in Oklahoma City where she met and fell in love with Martin A. Muck. They married on March 21, 1981 and made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they raised two children; a daughter, Courtney Michele Muck and a son, Bradley Alan Muck.
Melinda had a long career spanning over 30 years as a sales representative with several
pharmaceutical companies including Syntex, Parke-Davis, and Pfizer where she became a Certified Medical Representative and achieved many awards including the Summit Award, being part of the Vice President's Cabinet, and a Masters designation. She retired in 2011 but remained active within her community.
Melinda was a kind soul with a big heart and a love for music. She was a member of the choir at Redeemer Church for many years. Attending concerts with friends and family was a favorite past time, no matter if it was a big venue or live local music. She had a strong sense of friendship and fought fiercely for her family. Her taste in fashion and decor, and attention to detail were impeccable and her creativity knew no bounds. She was a talented seamstress of pillows, curtains, clothes, and costumes.
She had an unwavering faith in God and the ultimate positive outlook on life, always willing to give back. She volunteered with organizations such as Reading Partners, The Common Good, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts of America and went on a once in a lifetime mission trip to Cuba with Power of a Nickel. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, she fought to beat the diagnosis and in 2014 succeeded. A second cancer diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma came in February 2023 and still her faith remained strong.
Melinda lived a great life. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and Dondi to her grandchildren, and she will never be forgotten. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernor E. Courtney and Rachel K. Courtney; brother, Michael L. Courtney. Melinda is survived by her husband, Martin Muck; daughter, Courtney Muck and husband, Jarrett Vincent; grandson Harley; Son, Bradley Muck and wife, Allison Muck; grandsons, Shepherd and Luca; sister, Patricia Williams and husband, Jim Williams; and numerous other family and friends.
