Natalie "Nezzie"
Inez Barnett
Oct 19, 1924 — Oct 10, 2019
Tulsa
Natalie Inez (Nezzie/Noon) McKay Barnett passed away peacefully in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, October 12, 2019, just shy of her 95th birthday. She was known by her nieces and nephews as "Nezzie" and by friends as "Natalie" or "Inez", but her mother called her "Noon".
She was born in Bradford, Arkansas on October 19, 1924, where she played basketball in high school. She attended business school in Arkansas where she met her very dear friend, Betty, both of whom moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the Pentagon during the last 2 years of WWII.
Nezzie later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to live with her sister and brother-in law, Sibyl and Joe Edwards. She was a great help to Sibyl and her children.
Nezzie met John Robert "Barney" Barnett while in Tulsa, later marrying him.
Barney was a Major in the US Air Force, from which he retired after serving more than 30 years. He and Nezzie were stationed in the US, Morocco and in France. She developed a love for cooking and learned many native dishes of these countries in which they lived.
Nezzie was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, her sister, Sibyl Edwards, her mother and father, Gertrude and Robert McKay and nephew Michael Edwards. She is survived by ten of Sibyl's children.
Her favorite Bible verse was Proverb 3:5 – "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
