Rebecca E.
Deaton, Md
Sep 16, 1953 — Jan 19, 2022
Tulsa
Rebecca E. Deaton, MD, a celebrated Obstetrician Gynecologist who helped countless patients over the years, died at St. John's Hospital on January 19 th . She was 68.
Born in Ada, OK, Rebecca found her way to the "big city" of Tulsa after attending OSU and gaining her medical degree from OU Medical School. She knew early on she wanted to go into Obstetrics as women's rights and equality were foundational beliefs. She was a free spirit who was an amazing surgeon, a rare combination, and she paved the way for female doctors in Oklahoma. One of only 10 women in her medical school class, when she arrived at her first hospital after residency the locker rooms simply said "Doctors" and "Nurses." After two years of ball busting, she had them properly changed to "Male" and "Female." When not caring for her patients, Rebecca could be found dining somewhere fabulous, drinking something great, and enjoying her friends. And even then, a patient usually stopped to thank her for the years of care.
She is survived by her daughter, Clea Alsip, her son-in-law, Danny Binstock, her brother, Clay Deaton, and his loving family. She adored her family and in her last years went out of her way with generosity and kindness. She was soon to be a grandmother for the first time and her last months were full of excitement and joy.
On Tuesday, January 25th, there will be a visitation at Stanleys Funeral Home from 11AM to 1PM followed by an invitation only memorial service, available for all by zoom, at 3PM to honor and celebrate Rebecca's life at All Souls Unitarian Church. Please find the zoom link below to attend.
