Rhoda Frances Hazen Bailey died peacefully, while holding two of her children's hands, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa from natural causes on Saturday, April 16 at 3:58 pm.

She was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Tuesday, February 17, 1925.  Due to a massive snowstorm in Cheyenne the doctor had to drive out and transport them to the hospital. Their vehicle couldn't make the trip.  She loved telling that story.

She was baptized September 24 ^th, 1929.

Rhoda moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when she was seven, in 1932. The family immediately joined First Methodist Church in downtown Tulsa and became very active in the church. She was fourth in the line of five children in her family.

Rhoda graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1943 and remained active with her class.  They continued to eat lunch together monthly until very recently. She cherished those lunches and relationships.

At the age of 18 (1943) she moved by herself to Washington state to attend The College of Puget Sound. She had a multitude of memories of that gutsy time in her life.

After her time in Washington, she attended both the University of Oklahoma and University of Tulsa.  She pledged Chi Omega at the University of Tulsa and loved sorority life. She continued to attend Chi O events until around 2020 when Covid-19 and her health called a halt to that.

In 1947 she married Robert E Bailey. They lived in Sapulpa for a short time and then moved to an apartment on the East side of Tulsa. Within their first year his employer, Bethlehem Steel, transferred them to New Orleans. They were in New Orleans approximately 12 months during which time their first child was conceived and born. They were transferred back to Tulsa in April of 1948; their newborn was only 14 days old. Bob passed away in 1992.

In 1949 she joined the Beacon Class at First Methodist and enjoyed an abundance of lifelong friendships. She was continually active in the class throughout her life holding several offices and bringing flowers from her garden to decorate on Sundays.

Other organizations to which she belonged were Assistance League, Questers, and Panhellenic. She loved playing party bridge and excelled at it. She was an avid gardener and very proud of her beautiful yard full of flowers and plants.

She never hesitated to tell you her age; she turned 97 this year. She was known for her spunky attitude and always tried to be positive about the changes in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Temple Hazen and Harold Hazen; her sisters, Margaret Wells, Helen Ellison, and Esther Honska.  She is survived by her brother, Harold Hazen Jr., in Albuquerque; her three children, Kathy Jewell (Bob), Tulsa; Ken Bailey (Janie), McMinnville, TN; and Bob Bailey, Tulsa; grandchildren, Teri Mocha Newton, Broken Arrow; Scott Mocha (Christine), California; and Father Kenneth Bailey (Nancy Beth), Florida; great grandchildren Abraham Bailey, Wesley Bailey, Novella Bailey, John Elijah Bailey, Sophia Bailey, Jesse Bailey, Charles Bailey, Jackson Mocha and Cole Mocha.

There will be a Memorial Service for Rhoda at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 11 ^th & Boulder in Tulsa on Tuesday, May 10 at 11:00 am.
