Richard R.
Sullivan
Dec 17, 1936 — Jan 10, 2024
Tulsa
Richard Sullivan was born December 17, 1936, in Tulsa, OK and lived all his life in Tulsa until he passed away on January 10, 2024. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1958 with a BSBA in Accounting where he became a 50+ year member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Following graduation, he went to work as a partner in his father's Public Accounting Firm of T.I. Sullivan & Son. He worked for several local and national CPA firms before establishing his own CPA firm of Sullivan & Associates, Inc. in 1975. He was a member of the American Institute of CPA's and served on the Tax Committee of the Oklahoma Tax Commission for 40 years.
He met the love of his life, Rita, while they were both serving as officers of the University of Tulsa Alumni Board of Directors. They were married for 49 years.
He was active in many professional and civic organizations: including being a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member and officer of many Masonic organizations, a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Tulsa and an Elder and Treasurer at Southminister Presbyterian Church as well as a supporter and attendee of University of Tulsa events for over 60 years.
He participated in many activities of the civic organizations of which he was a member as giving back to his community was important to him. Always important to him as a CPA were his many clients who became friends not just clients.
Most important to Richard was his family. He enjoyed so many fun times with his children and grandchildren and all the family enjoyed his long-time hosting of holiday dinners, especially the ones at Cedar Ridge Country Club of which he was a member for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Payne Sullivan; his daughter, Stacy Judd; his son, Richard Russell Sullivan Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Shelby Summers, Holly Sullivan, and Saxton Judd; and 4 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Southminister Presbyterian Church at 1 PM on February 7, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the School of Accounting & Business Information Systems at the University of Tulsa or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
