Robert Charles DeVoe was known for his lifelong humanitarian commitment to animal welfare and professional excellence. His career achievements were all highlighted by a sturdy, never-ending work ethic, coupled with highest professional competence.

Retired in 2010 from the Michigan College of Aviation and Technology, he created its record-shattering Veteran and Agency Program and served as the college's Veteran Representative for Michigan and Ohio.

DeVoe was the Director of Admissions at Toledo, Ohio's Davis College, and served as both an admission representative and senior admission representative at both Davis and Stautzenberger Colleges, also in Toledo.

During his career in education DeVoe was the Corporate Sales Manager for Tri-State Educational Systems of Middletown, Ohio, with responsibility for admissions and marketing for two Ohio Business Colleges (in Lorain and Sandusky), two Ohio Institutes of Health Careers (in Columbus and Elyria) and Tri-State Semi Driver Training schools in Ohio and Texas.

DeVoe served as State Information Officer for the Adjutant General for Ohio, the Ohio National Guard and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

As the editor of Inside the Turret (the US Army's largest civilian enterprise newspaper at Fort Knox, KY) and Buckeye Guard Magazine, the Ohio National Guard's statewide publication, DeVoe won numerous national and international awards.

As a consultant to the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission, he coordinated marketing and public relations for a 32-county area of Northwest Ohio.

While working with Ohio Rehab Services, he created and coordinated the Commission's largest event known at the Ohio Disability Expo for individuals with disabilities.

DeVoe was State Public Affairs Director for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Ohio Council 8, and the Communications Workers of America's Council of Public Workers.

As a newspaper and magazine editor he received the prestigious Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America for excellence in governmental public affairs while serving as the State Information Officer for the Adjutant General of Ohio and Ohio Army National Guard.

A graduate of Toledo, Ohio's Rogers High School, DeVoe served as editor of both the school's newspaper, literary magazine and yearbook. DeVoe (at just 17 years old) became the editor of the former Sylvania Sentinel newspaper, where he started as a stringer while in high school earning a whopping ten cents per column inch for his Rogers High School sports articles and photos.

Mr. DeVoe served his country with distinction during 14 years in three branches of the United States military -US Marine Corps, US Army and Ohio Army National Guard with the final rank of Sergeant First Class with Honorable Discharges from each branch of service.

While in the US Marines, was selected as a photographer and cinematographer on Presidential Press teams for Presidents Nixon, Johnson and Ford during the Vietnam War.

He has been honored with over 60 international, national and regional awards during his service in both the military and civilian sectors for excellence in public relations, marketing, journalism, photography, cinematography and community service, including three prestigious Thomas Jefferson Awards from the US Department of Defense; 6 Keith L. Ware Awards from the US Army and additional top awards from the 5h US Army, National Guard Association of the United States, Association of the US Army, Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, US Army Training and Doctrine Command and the US Army Department of Information.

DeVoe sponsored and coordinated numerous career fairs and job fairs throughout Northwest Ohio and Michigan. He was named the first recipient of the Annual Friend of The Source Award by the Lucas County Workforce Development Agency for his extraordinary efforts and major event sponsorships on behalf of the area's unemployed workers and veterans. He often volunteered to coach unemployed workers with interview techniques and resume preparation.

He founded and served as president and CEO of Entertainment Incorporated of Columbus, a major Midwest entertainment booking, management and promotion agency.

DeVoe was also the founder and CEO of RCD Consulting, a Toledo business and marketing service firm specializing in college admissions sales training, major event planning, marketing and public relations.

He was a lifelong animal welfare advocate with a special place in his heart for his beloved cat Sweetie, Squirt, Mickey and Sidney- and his eight departed cats who will join him on his final journey.

His past and present memberships and professional organizations are too numerous to list but include Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association; Association of the United States Army, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legion, Marine Corps League, Columbus Press Club, National Guard Association of the U.S. and the Public Relations Society of America.

He was a member of the Woodland Hills Church of Christ in Tulsa.

Mr. DeVoe was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rolla and Eleanor DeVoe, his oldest brother Nilian E. DeVoe, brother Todd H. DeVoe and sister Dawn Marie DeVoe.

He is survived by brother Dennis L. DeVoe, Sister-in-Law Debbie, Nephew David DeVoe, Niece Kristine Doke, grand-nephews Alex and Harley Doke and grand-niece Scarlet and their canine kids Belle and Chica.
