Long time prominent Tulsa business leader, attorney and philanthropist Robert W. Langholz passed away at his home in Tulsa on Wednesday November 6, 2019. Mr. Langholz was born in Sioux City Iowa and grew up in Mapleton Iowa.
Mr. Langholz received his BA degree in Business Administration in 1951 and followed with a Juris Doctorate in 1956, both from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
During the period between obtaining his degrees he served in the United States Air Force in the United States and Japan during the Korean Conflict. While obtaining his Doctorate, he met the love of his life, Edna Page, of Jacksonville Florida, who predeceased him in 1993. The Langholzes were married in 1955. Edna Langholz was a well-known author and leader in nutritional science. She was President of the American Dietetic Association during 1981-1982 and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. Robert Langholz also had a great interest in world nutrition and he and Edna established the Robert and Edna Langholz International Nutrition Award which regularly honors the individual whose recent contribution to nutritional science has had the greatest international significance.
Mr. Langholz moved to Tulsa in 1956 and soon after both he and his wife fell in love with the City and people of Tulsa and never left. He temporarily left the corporate world and started his legal career as a member of the law firm of Carlson, Lupardus, Mathews, Holliman & Huffman and later became a founding member of the prominent law firm of Holliman, Langholz, Runnels, and Dorwart.
Having represented several public companies, Robert Langholz realized he had a knack for business and he and his partners started acquiring and creating businesses here in Tulsa and internationally. During his life, Mr. Langholz and his partners owned and operated in excess of fifty companies worldwide. Mr. Langholz was Chairman or CEO of a number of large companies headquartered in Tulsa including Skinner Brothers Company, Indel-Davis, Inc., Geophysical Research, Inc., Bryan Infants Wear. He was also on the boards of numerous other local and national companies including F&M Bank and Trust.
Mr. Langholz was a major contributor to Tulsa's civic and cultural movement. He was involved in numerous charitable and philanthropic organizations including being a past director of the Tulsa Philharmonic; Chairman of the Young President's Organization; a National Associate of the Boys Clubs of America; Member of the Council of National Trustees of National Jewish Medical Research Center; Board of Trustees – Emeritus of Philbrook; Lifetime Member of the Board of Trustees of the Hoover Presidential Foundation; and a long standing Board Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. He and his wife Edna were founding members of New Haven United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
Mr. Langholz was a long time member of Southern Hills Country Club and the Summit Club here in Tulsa, Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, CA and The Bohemian Club in San Francisco, CA.
Mr. Langholz is survived by his sister Phyllis Stone of Denver Colorado, his three sons and their wives: Robert Langholz, Jr. and LeAnne, Laurence Langholz and Alyson, and Kristofer Langholz and Kelli. He is also survived by seven loving grand children: Logan Langholz, Preston Langholz and his wife Amanda, Lauren Seibert and her husband Dylan, Michael Langholz, Anna Langholz, Carl Langholz and Gretchen Langholz.
