Robert Eugene
Patterson
Apr 21, 1932 — Nov 7, 2018
Robert Eugene Patterson, "Bob", 86 of Tulsa, Oklahoma, also lovingly know by friends and family as "Bear," died on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, in his longtime home in Tulsa. Bob was born on April 21, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Leroy and Ottie Patterson. On December 21, 1955 he married the love of his life, Cadijah Helmerich. Bob graduated from the University of Tulsa where he was a first team All-American basketball player. During the 1954-1955 season #30 became the leading scorer in Oklahoma state history for basketball. He was the player of the year in the Missouri Valley Conference with the highest game point average in its history with 30.5 points per game. In 1978 Bob was selected to the Oklahoma State Athletic Hall of Game and in 1982 he was the first basketball player to be elected to the University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Fame. Bob never really left the gym, instead he went on to coach many boys' and girls' basketball teams for 12 years while only losing about 10 games. Bob's other passion was business. He was the CEO of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Tulsa Inc. and president of Mid-America Land, Grain and Cattle Company. Bob was a member of many Tulsa civic, educational, and political organizations where he gave of himself to help the community he loved. Bob split his time between Tulsa, Arizona, his ranch in Northern Oklahoma and he could often be found at his cabin on the Lake of the Woods in Canada. He was a lover of animals and was devoted to help saving wildlife and the wolves in Yellowstone National Park. Much to the local hunters' dismay, he turned his ranch into a private wildlife sanctuary of which he was very proud. Robert Patterson was predeceased by his wife Cadijah; his sisters Betty Chapman and Shirley Proffitt; and loving canine companions, Wolf, Touche and Tex. Bob is survived by his daughter Cip, and husband Blaine Frizzell; daughter Shannon; son Rep; daughter Sabrina, and husband Mike Nunnelee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Luke Frizzell and wife, Erin; Caleb Frizzell and wife, Emma; Merich Frizzell; and Vance, Elle, Zeke and Nate Mullendore. In addition, he is survived by his first great-grandson, Aiden Frizzell. Services will be Tuesday, November 20, at 11:00 AM at Sharp Chapel on the University of Tulsa campus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cascia Hall Preparatory School.
