Sandra
Reynolds
Sep 17, 1937 — May 4, 2024
Tulsa
At 8:10 am on Sept 17, 1937, at West Texas Maternity Hospital, Widow Pauline Dearing Boatwright gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her Gwendolyn Effie. She was placed in the Gladney Foundation for adoption on Oct 2, 1937, and was lucky enough for a wonderful family to start the adoption process on the same day. The adoption was finalized on February 14, 1938, and she went home with her new parents, Harrison Alexander Dainlaw Hutchinson (Hutch) and Evelyn Kaufman (Chic) Hutchinson. Her name was changed at adoption to Sandra Carole Hutchinson. Her dad, Harry, worked for the Roosevelt family and Sandra grew up sipping tea with Miss Eleanor and had many fun stories to share of life in Hyde Park. The family moved around quite a bit and moved back and forth from Hyde Park to Tulsa and Albuquerque. She met her future husband, Sammy Lee Reynolds, at the University of New Mexico and they married in early 1958. They shared 3 daughters, Carole Jeanine, Cynthia Sue, both born in Albuquerque, NM, and Leigh-Anne who was born after the family moved to Altus Ok. Due to Sam's job the family moved around a lot and they moved to Birmingham, Alabama, Independence Kansas, and eventually settled in Tulsa Oklahoma, where she lived until her death. She was a homemaker, an avid reader, and a volunteer at church and with her local sorority until her kids went away to college and then she went to work for YWCA for 5 years and then went to work at Briarwood Optical until her retirement in 2002. She was an obsessive pet lover and collected as many as 17 cats at one time and had lots of dogs. Her daughters made her the proud grandmother of Lauren Leigh Jenkins of Tulsa, who she helped raise, born to Carole, Grandson Sam Chabut of Cincinnati, OH and granddaughters Grace Caroline Chabut of Denver, CO and Kendall Marie Chabut of Chicago, IL born to daughter Cindy and husband Keith Chabut and Brian Churchman (wife Rachelle) of Norman, OK and Brooke Churchman of Denver, Colorado born to daughter Leigh and husband Daniel Churchman and 4 great grandchildren, Greycie Laney Diaz and Derek Diaz and Gavin and Maverick Churchman of Norman, OK. She also had a surrogate granddaughter, Emily Machetta of Tulsa, OK who she formed a special bond with. Sandra was preceded in death by her daughter Carole Jenkins.
