Obituary

Sarah Joyce Hendrix Kunkel passed away on November 9, 2025, at Clarehouse Hospice Home in Tulsa.

Joyce was born in Statesboro, Georgia on June 8, 1935, the daughter of Stephen & Mamie Hendrix. She was always an excellent student in school. She left the farm life and moved to Kansas where she took some business classes to become an Administrative Assistant. She met and eventually married Harold E. Kunkel, Sr. while in Kansas. They spent a few years in Georgia before relocating to Tulsa, OK in 1963.

Joyce was very active in Desk & Derrick, Tri Psi and her church. She finished her working career and retired from Saint Francis Hospital after 14 years there, in October of 2007 at the age of 72. One of her greatest honors was being awarded the "Dignity Award" at Saint Francis Hospital in 2003.

Her husband predeceased her in 1984. She is survived by her 3 children and their families. Son Harold and wife Cindy of Springfield, MO; Son Darrel & wife Betsy of Tulsa, OK and their 2 sons, Bob, Jim and wife Nicole and their daughter Victoria of Broken Arrow, OK; and Cheryl and David Moore of San Antonio, TX and their children, Tom & wife Katrina of San Antonio, TX and Kristin and her husband William and their daughter, Sydney of Fort Worth, TX. Along with many relatives in the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Kansas.

A graveside service is scheduled at Memorial Park Cemetery, 51st and Memorial, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Clarehouse.org to help us show our appreciation for the compassionate care that was provided to Joyce in her final days.
