Susan Mcdaniel
Brown
Oct 22, 1954 — Apr 16, 2025
Tulsa
Susan M. Brown, affectionately known as Susie, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025. Born in 1954 in Burlington, Iowa, she grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana. Susie lived a life full of music, laughter, and love — for her family, her community, and especially her dogs.
A gifted and passionate musician, Susie earned a bachelor's degree in music performance, specializing in bassoon and flute, from West Texas State University. She played the bassoon professionally and also led a respected bassoon and flute studio in the Tulsa area for over 40 years, where she touched the lives of hundreds of young musicians. Her artistry and dedication left an indelible mark on the Tulsa music scene, and her colleagues and students alike remember her not only for her talent but also for her warmth, humor, and mentorship.
Beyond the concert hall, Susie was a proud and longtime member of the Tulsa Dog Training Club. Her devotion to her dogs was well known — some might even say she was a little obsessed, in the best and most endearing way. Whether she was training, competing, or just playing with her beloved pups, Susie's joy was contagious.
Susie brought a special light wherever she went. Her bubbly personality, kind heart, and playful spirit made her a favorite among friends, colleagues, and family. She never failed to make people laugh, lift their spirits, or offer a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Peggy McDaniel. Susie is survived by her sister, Karen; her brother, Emmett; her daughter, Stephanie; her son, Dustin; and her two adored grandsons, Caden and Jaxon, who she loved very much and brought her immense pride and joy.
Susie's life was a beautiful symphony — full of passion, compassion, and laughter. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Oklahoma Alzheimer's Association , Tulsa Dog Training Club , or KSDS Assistance Dogs in her honor.
