Trudy Lynn
Shafer
Jun 23, 1955 — Sep 2, 2019
Trudy Lynn Shafer, 64, of Tulsa, OK passed away unexpectedly on September 2, 2019.
Born on June 23, 1955 in Tulsa, OK, Trudy was the youngest of three children. She was a social child with a beaming face and smile. She gained friends easily. There was joy in Trudy's voice when she talked about playing with neighborhood friends in the shared space where all the fenceless backyards met.
She attended school at Edison in Tulsa, OK. While there, she met many people including first husband, Michael Smith. Michael and Trudy had a son, Jesse. She lived to see Jesse's success in life and in family. She spent visits with her grandchildren playing cards and reveling in their youthful enthusiasm.
Trudy had an unforgettable personality. She was goofy in the best way. Trudy's beauty attracted others to her, but it was her smile and openness that put people around her at ease. Her face exuded a grace without pretention. She allowed others into her world with a genuine caring and compassionate attitude. She valued relationships and kept keepsakes that reminded her of happy times.
Trudy loved her grandparents, Robert "Papa" and Adelaide "Mama" Hollingsworth dearly. They were always there for her. Mama was honest all the time and Trudy was unfiltered most of the time. They were quite a pair. Papa was there with a silent presence that made Trudy feel safe and comforted.
Throughout her journey, Trudy was faced with many challenges of the human condition. She was immeasurably brave and always came back to family. She lived in several locations but her heart was centered around those who loved her. Trudy and her mother, Marian "Holly" Parks, grew to be very close, if not inseparable over the last several years. They had a reliance upon each other that fulfilled Trudy's need to mother and be mothered. She also felt very close to her sister, Terri, and brother, Chris. Trudy was truly grateful to have them in her life.
She has now been reunited with several friends, her beloved Mama and Papa, and her faithful dog Nancy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Shafer. Trudy is survived by her mother, Marian Parks; son, Jesse Smith and wife Amy; brother, Chris Shafer and wife Bev; sister Terri Haines; grandson, Aidan Smith; granddaughter, Annie Smith; and numerous other family members and friends.
