Virginia Lee
Smith Rainwater
May 30, 1919 — Jun 25, 2019
Virginia Lee Smith Rainwater passed away on June 25, 2019. She was pleased to have made her 100th birthday on May 30th. Born in Abilene, Texas, she lived about half of her life in Texas and half in Oklahoma. While studying for her degree at Texas Wesleyan University, she was honored as a beauty queen several times. Student Lowell Rainwater saw Virginia coming out of the library and said to his friend, "I'm going to marry her someday." He did and they celebrated 46 years of marriage before Lowell's death in 1990.
Thanks to her mother's insistence on practicing on the piano, Virginia was an accomplished pianist. She has played for weddings, funerals, Sunday School classes, church services and a high school competitive choir. Also, she taught 3rd grade (her favorite) for many years at Barnard Elementary and Anahuac, Texas Elementary. Virginia was a loving, kind, disciplined, generous and tenacious person, who blessed those around her wherever she was.
As Virginia's eternal life begins, she will be greeted by her husband, her parents and brother; as well as many other relatives and friends. She is survived by daughter Diane (Mel) Swafford; son John (Linda) Rainwater; grandchildren Kimberly (Michael) Deardorff; Eric (Valerie) Packel; Elliott Packel; Laura (Stuart) Bond; and Ryan (Elizabeth) Rainwater; 10 grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Kerr; three nieces and a nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 2:00PM at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church (1301 S. Boston Avenue – Tulsa, OK) and a Family Committal Service will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, July 2nd, at Greenwood Mausoleum in Fort Worth, Texas where Virginia will be laid to rest beside her husband and other family members.
Please, in lieu of flowers, contribute to Boston Avenue United Methodist Church Music Fund or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Services entrusted to Stanleys Funeral & Cremation Service.
